Week in Review #11

Good morning!

Well the kids are back at school today, hopefully having a good time, which means I have this morning and afternoon to basically do whatever I want! I’m ok with that. 🙂

It was my intention to post my Week in Review yesterday, but I just plain ran out of time (I like to post things in the morning). Instead, I’m going to combine WIAW and WiR. Let’s see how confusing this post is!

What I Ate Wednesday is hosted by the lovely Jenn over at Peas and Crayons, and Week in Review is hosted by the amazing Meghan of Clean Eats, Fast Feets. Thanks, ladies!

Week in Review

  • I helped Dan celebrate his birthday – twice, with two different cakes. The first was a vanilla cake from my parents, and the second was my Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cake that I always make him.

  • Got this text from Sarah, who was staying in a shady hotel in not the greatest part of Tennessee.

  • Ella and I went for a few walks. We had some amazing weather last week (70*s and sunny), so it was nice to take advantage of it.

  • I got a pedicure with my mom. I wanted to do something different (from my normal purple/pink), so I went with navy and sparkles. Really girly, but I like it!

I hate my feet. Actually, I hate all feet. (Except baby feet.) They’re gross. But I wanted to show this to you all, so if you’re like me, please forgive me.

  • Along with the pedicure, they threw in a manicure for free. (??) I’ve never had a manicure before, and I have to say, I like them. 🙂 Again, I went a bit girly and got lilac with ombre silver sparkles.

Sorry for the weird coloring in the photo…you probably get the idea. 🙂

  • We started watching the first half of the final season of Breaking Bad. I don’t have any nail polish left now. (I bite/mess with my nails when I’m nervous or stressed, and anyone who has watched Breaking Bad knows how much that show can affect you.)
  • I made some of that Pesto Chicken Rollatini, and added a side of roasted veggies. SO GOOD.
    (^^Shameless bragging.)

  • My parents are working on selling our piano. It’s kind of sad for me, as I literally grew up playing that piano. We got it when I was six, and I played it almost every day up until I went to college. I’m just trying to keep in mind that it will bring another family lots of happiness.

  • This is a bit late, but I received a BIC band in the mail from a contest I won by Christina, The Athletarian. I love it! It’s a bit tight, because I have a weird shaped head, but it’s so cute!

  • As it turns out, I’m really not good at taking pictures of myself. The one above isn’t even that great, and that was after a million tries! Oh well. We all have our talents…or not. By the way, those freckles? Yeah, that’s what happens when a part-Irish girl goes in the sun. I don’t get a pretty tan…I get freckles. Woe is me.
  • I took the kids I babysit to a nearby park the other day. It ended up being such a fantastic way to spend the afternoon.

  • Yesterday, Sarah and I hung out for the first time in a while. She’s leaving for Scotland in a month for vet school. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous, but more than anything I’m super excited and happy for her. It was fun talking about it, reminiscing about my trip, and planning for when I visit. 🙂
  • As it turns out, my library has a pretty good selection of DVDs. I rented one called One Week, and it was very, very good. I also watched The Paperboy with Dan. It was a seriously disturbing movie. The plot was quite interesting, and the acting was great, but it very difficult to watch during some parts. Definitely not one to rent if you have kids in the house!
  • The boy I babysit and I finished reading HP4, just in time for school to start. It makes me so happy to see another HP fan out there. 🙂
  • I (by sheer chance) created another stuffed pepper recipe. It was great, despite the fact that I literally made it up on the spot. I’ll share it for next week’s Meat Free Monday.

  • The kids and I visited a new fro-yo place nearby. I forgot my phone, so I didn’t get a picture, but I’m sure I’ll be going back soon.
  • I was treated to a gorgeous sunset last Saturday night.

  • Finally, Ella and I have spent a good amount of time cuddling. Is there anything better? 🙂 I think she really missed me while I was on vacation.

That’s all I have for today! Have a great day!

Questions for the day:

Ice cream cake. Yay or nay?

Pedicures or manicures?

Did you play an instruments when you were younger/do you still?

Have you linked up yet to WIAW or WiR? If not, you really should join in on the fun. 🙂

  1. A free manicure? Aren’t you lucky. Love the colors you picked too… oh & I never new you played the piano. How cool!

Ice cream cake.. um all for it
When i was younger I played the violin and flute.

    1. I know! It was pretty unexpected. Thanks!
Yep, I’ve played it for a long time now. 🙂 I still play the violin, too, and always thought the flute was a gorgeous instrument.

  2. I saw your post on Facebook this morning but didn’t have a chance to read it yet. But I remembered your comment about the kids going back to school… which started a 30 minute conversation about teachers my mom knows who live in different states and have different school schedules… which then led into a discussion about Spring break (way far away, I know) but I think Spring break should actually be during Spring, don’t you? I think mine is in early March when it will most likely still be snowing 😦

Anywho, that chocolate chip cookie ice cream cake looks delicious! Dan’s a lucky guy 🙂

I’m loving your nails and pedicure. Nail polish never stays on my nails long, but seeing yours makes me want to go have my done too!

Ice cream cake- I like it, but I’d rather have separate cake and ice cream. I played clarinet in school. Yes to WIAW, and not yet to WIR 🙂

    1. YES it should be in the spring!! That drives me nuts! Ours has always been the first week in March, too, and is usually “graced” with snow. Gross.
      Thanks!
Yeah, I typically don’t paint my fingernails because within minutes they chip, but the manicure actually lasted a couple of days. Hah.
I guess I won’t say no to cake or ice cream, together or separate. 😉

  3. I love love love those glitter nails. it is not too over the top but perfect for summer

    1. Thanks! 🙂

  4. lots of awesome things in this post! i wish my nail place would give me a free mani. i love that periwinkle color with the subtle silver glitter. that chicken and roasted veg DOES look awesome, give yourself a huge pat on the back. and that ice cream cookie cake, omg, give yourself a huge SLAP on the back for that one 😉 this sure has been perfect walking weather! glad you have been getting out to enjoy it.

  5. Happy birthday to Dan! And omg checking out that cake and chicken recipes. Yuuuuum.

  6. I LOVE ice cream cake! I’ve had it on my birthday several times 🙂 One year friends even made two giant cookies and smooshed a lot of vanilla ice cream in between them- it was kind of amazing 🙂

That stuffed pepper looks so good! And yay for parks, puppies, and pretty sunsets!

    1. I think ice cream cake is overlooked for birthdays, but I love it! And yes, that cookie ice cream cake that your friend made you sounds just divine.

  7. Love icecream cake!!!…and your sparkly BIC band matches your mani/pedi!

    1. No kidding! I didn’t even think of that until you mentioned it! 🙂

  8. So… my birthday is in January, and I definitely wouldn’t say no to one of those chocolate chip ice cream cakes… just sayin’ 😉 I actually really love ice cream cakes, but there’s something to be said about a nice doughy one as well. Basically, you can’t really go wrong when it comes to cake. And I don’t blame you for getting a little emotional about your piano. My parents still have the one that I grew up playing, and when they mentioned selling it a while back, I kind of had a fit and told them there’s no way I’d let them. I’m actually kind of sad that I gave up on the piano… music is such a beautiful thing.

    1. If there was some way I could ship it to you, I so would! I agree, it’s so hard to go wrong with cake.
Glad someone knows what I’m talking about! I was very upset when they proposed selling it, to the point where I begged them not to. It’s a bummer. :-/

  9. I really should get pedicures more often. Manicures on the other hand are just not an option since I bite them all off before I can even get one! So much for my new years resolution….I certainly wouldn’t complain is someone offered to give me one for free 😉 Yours was so pretty!!!

    1. Haha I understand! I typically don’t bite my nails too much, but the paint just ends up chipping off anyway, so usually I don’t see a point in it! And thanks!

  10. This post is filled with beautiful photos! I love the park on nice afternoons, it looks like a really nice park! I have only had a pedicure once before but I have had many manicures. I like the colours you chose!

    1. Thank you! I rarely take advantage of that park, but after our visit, I really do need to go more often!

  11. Ice cream cake is always a yay!! I love the flower from the park (and all the beautiful nature photos in this post) and your free manicure looked so pretty. I’m a pedicure girl myself though I’ve just recently broken my nail biting habit.

Glad to hear your newest HP fan is still doing well 🙂

  12. Wow, there is so much amazingness in this post, I think I need to get back to my traditional WIR roots. In the meantime, I’ll give my responses in list form.
    1) I love the sunset and park pictures.
    2) Elle is adorable.
    3) I want an ice cream cookie cake please.
    4) I also want to reread HP now.
    5) I’m all about pedicures and I love your sparkles.
    6) What happened to all their teeth? On second thought, I don’t want to know.
