No More Summer + WIAW

WELL. It might as well officially be winter here! I absolutely love Michigan summers (I honestly don’t think there is a better state to be in during the season) but they’re just so fleeting. Last week and the week before were full of warm, even hot, days. This week? It’s getting into the 30*s at night!

I do love fall, I just wish the season was longer!

And so, Michigan has decided summer is over. I hope it at least gives us a fall this year…I will probably cry if we get snow in October! πŸ˜›

I think the cold weather is already getting to peoples’ heads – both in lack of motivation to get up and out into the cold, and also in terms of falling ill. Half of the students in one of my English classes weren’t there yesterday and there have been a bunch of absences from the high school I’m pre-student teaching in. And, by the way, there are already Christmas things out in some department stores!!!

Though, I need to come clean here: I got all of the Christmas shopping done for the kids I babysit. Yes, in September. πŸ˜‰

WIAW

Breakfast (E, N)

Lo and behold, I forgot to take a picture of my breakfast….again. My stomach has been acting up lately, and I felt kind of weird after I had my usual Greek yogurt combo yesterday, so I decided to go with a small bowl of Special K this morning.

My stomach still didn’t feel so great all morning, even after this breakfast. However, it turned out to be kind of helpful, as it reminded me to schedule an appointment with my allergist. The last time I got tested was five years ago, and I definitely would like to have some updated answers…or maybe I won’t like them, depending on what they are. Either way, that appointment is now all set for December! So, thanks, angry stomach!

Lunch (E, N)

Time completely got away from my today, and I ended up needing to forgo my original idea of making a super healthy and filling quinoa dish…

for this instead. A Flat-Out wrap with pizza spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese. It was not very tasty, but it did the job.

I also had some mandarin orange slices while I caught up on some emails.

Come to think of it, lunch was seriously lacking in the veggie department today.

Snacks (throughout the day)

A handful of dried cherries. I LOVE THESE THINGS.

And a Quinoa Oat Energy Bite, which I ate for a little boost between being at the high school for three hours and going to my three hour class.

It was still frosty from the freezer when I took this picture. I’m telling you, that is the best way to eat one! πŸ™‚

Dinner (E, N)

A 6-inch ham sandwich on 9-Grain Honey Oat bread from Subway. I had them pack it full of lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, green peppers, and banana peppers so I could at least get some veg into today.

I actually got this sandwich yesterday, and because I went straight from the high school to campus today, I used my new PackIt to keep the sandwich cold.

My cousin was telling my mom and I about these the other weekend, and based on what she told us, my mom decided to order a couple knowing our schedules were so busy this semester. It is actually a really cool little thing: you keep it in the freezer when you aren’t using it, and because of that the food stays cool for 10 hours! I love it.

Dessert (E, N)

I made a quick stop into Walgreens today and ended up grabbing one of these things because it sounded soooo good. The regular version has 120 calories, so I decided to give the 80-cal, sugar-free one a try. It was only a couple of cents, so I figured if I didn’t like it, it wasn’t a big deal to just throw it away.

It actually was really pretty good, though! Hooray for Halloween candy! πŸ™‚

In other news,Β I am slightly behind in my blogging about my study abroad trip to England. But only slightly: today (plus a year ago) I went to Buckingham Palace, so be sure to check back tomorrow for my recap of that! It turns out the calendar function on my camera got all messed up with the time change, so here I was thinking I was posting on the correct days…oops. Oh well, easy fix. πŸ™‚

If you’re a dog lover/puppy person you need to watch this video. Actually, even if you aren’t, you still should because it’s adorable! It’s exactly how Ella reacts to a roll of tape (yeah, she’s kind of weird): all bouncy and crazy and cute. Funny thing is, though, Ella actually likes the taste of lemons, unlike this puppy. πŸ™‚

I’ll try and remember to post the video of Ella Versus Tape soon!

Finally, I have another amazing 5-Minute Mug Cake recipe for you all (click here and here for my other recipes!. I perfected it over this past weekend, and will blog about it on Friday. Be sure to check back – it will get your weekend off to the right start!

Well, I’m off to do some homework. Have a great night!

  1. I hope you have a great night too! That stinks that your stomach has been bothering you. Decemeber is so far away, I hope it doesn’t get worse!! Those five-minute cake recipes sound great. Can’t wait for the new one.

    1. Aw, thanks so much! I appreciate that. πŸ™‚

  2. Your mug cake looks so cute! I’ve tried a few recipes before, but have usually ended up with a semi-edible, rubber mess. Raspberries and chocolate chips always make a great combo!

    1. Haha believe me, I’ll show you my first attempt at this cake – it was awful! I hope you try this one, though. You’ll love it! πŸ™‚

  3. I love your WIAW…. Such a great concept! Looking forward to the Buckingham palace post πŸ™‚

    1. I love it too! It actually wasn’t my idea, though – if you click on the WIAW picture, it’ll take you to the actual site. I wish I’d have thought of it! πŸ˜›

  6. […] Remember that puppy versus lemon video that I posted last week? And how I compared that puppy’s reaction to a lemon to Ella’s reaction to tape? Well, here is that video. […]
