Week in Review #13

Good morning!

I hope you all aren’t too sad about the long weekend being over. At least the long weekend makes for a shorter week, right?

Today is my first day of student teaching, so as you’re reading this, I’m probably on my way to the school, a nervous wreck, or at the school, hopefully not as much of a nervous wreck. 😉 Wish me luck!

I haven’t done a Week in Review post in a loooong time, so today’s is going to be a sort of smattering of fun/interesting things that have been going on in my life as of late.

Week in Review

Thanks for hosting, Meghan!

Over the last few weeks…

  • I had a couple meetings at the high school (I’ll call it GHS from now on). Thankfully, they made me feel far less anxious about the whole student teaching situation. We’ll see how today goes, but I’m feeling pretty confident, at least about the first few weeks.
  • My coordinating teacher got me a teacher planner. I’ve already color-coded it. 🙂 I am in organization heaven, especially considering I have a personal planner to work with as well.

  • I’ve battled with my acid reflux continuously. Some days I think “wow, it’s getting much better” and then it comes back full force the next. It’s been frustrating, but I’m still working on it.
  • My mom and I dropped my brother off at school the other day. (We go to the same school.) It was weird being back in that town, and I have to say, I was so glad not to have to stay there! While I loved the classes, I could not stand that town. Thankfully for him, my brother feels differently, and really likes it.
  • Last weekend, my grandma brought over some pictures her brother sent her of her grandparents – my great-great-grandparents. It’s so cool to see what my ancestors looked like! We’re not sure exactly when they were taken, but we’re thinking late 1800s.

My great-great-grandpa Floyd and his wife (on the left). We think the other woman is maybe her sister.

These are the Boyles. They came over from England, but we’re not sure if this photo was taken there or in the U.S.

  • Over the last few weeks, I slowly got back into running. I can’t remember if I mentioned it, but I was dealing with some pretty bad arch pain in my left foot, and was taking it easy exercise-wise. Finally, the day before my gym membership ended, I was able to run for about a half hour with no pain. Success!
  • On that note, my mom has decided to do a fall 5K with me! We’re going to do Run Thru the Rapids, because the views of the river will be nice, and I won’t have to worry about finding a good running Halloween costume! 😉
  • The fall allergies are starting to hit. Good thing it’s so nice and pretty out.

  • Do you know what else has hit? Pumpkin. All over. Pinterest, facebook, blogs, everywhere. I get it, I like I too, but I’m just not ready for fall! Can we please hang on to summer a bit longer? Please?
  • Ella got some new bling.

  • My friend Amber’s little cutie celebrated his first birthday over the weekend. He is such a sweet kid. I think all of the people and presents were a bit overwhelming for him, but that happens when you’re just a little guy. 🙂

  • My grandma, aunt, and uncle all came over this past weekend to go out on the Lake and to just hang out. It was fun, as always, and there was a lot of food, as always. It’s interesting how so many of my family gatherings revolve around playing cards and eating. 😉
  • I hosted a “going away” dinner for my friend, Sarah, who is moving to Scotland on Friday. She and her mom came over, and I made shepherd’s pie, oatmeal gingerbread, and a super cool (if I do say so myself) School Survival Kit. I mentioned on Instagram that I was going to post about it today, but I think I’ll wait for Friday. I really want to get into the details!

photo-3I think that’s all I have for today. Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

Questions for the day:

Are you an organized person?

Do you have any pictures of your ancestors?

What do you think of Ella’s bling? Personally, I think it works really well with her color. 😉

  1. Ha! I’m not an organized person by nature, but I’m making a supreme effort to become more organized lately- I too have a planner and a flat desk calendar 🙂 I *think* it’s helping so far…
And I saw family this weekend, too. We went to a memorial service for my great-aunt, and my husband and parents and I agreed that it was such a nice, ideal service- the whole day was a real celebration of her life and who she was. We looked at lots of old pictures, including the deed to her house and property, which was first bought by my great-grandfather in the late 1800s! So incredible, and I love that it’s still in the family.
Can’t wait to hear about the Scotland School Survival Kit and have a good week at school 🙂

    1. That’s exactly what a memorial service should be like: sad, but in good remembrance of the person she was. I’m sorry for your loss, though. 😦
That bit of family history sounds SO interesting, though!

  2. um your dog is adorable, the new bling is very fitting haha. congrats on getting back into running, the 5k sounds so fun

    1. Haha thanks! And thanks, I’m really excited!

  3. Good luck on your first day! I’m sure you’re going to do great!

I’m definitely an organized person too. I don’t know what I’d do without my day planner. That gift your put together for your friend looks awesome!

    1. Thanks, Fiona! It did go really well. 🙂
I know, I don’t know how people can survive without a planner of some sort!

  4. Love your color-coded planner! Yay for organizing 🙂

  5. Ahh I wanna see whats in the box!! I love your new planner and all that organizational highlighting that’s happened already 🙂 Hopefully your first day went well!!

    1. Sorry I kept you waiting! And thanks haha. I love color-coding things. 🙂

  6. You’re such a good friend! That survival kit is absolutely adorable. 😀

I wish we had just collars for our dog Lilly but we always have used a harness on her for some reason. Ergo, no cute collars 😦 I think it has to do with the fact that she always slipped out of collars, and for cairn terriers sometimes they have difficulty breathing when they get older so harnesses are better?

I am so glad that I’m not at home for the major allergy season. For some reason at school there isn’t as much pollen floating around so my allergies are so much better!

I am working super hard on being organized and on top of things with my school work this year. #1 is a planner. So far I’ve successfully filled it out for a week. 15 more to go 🙂

Our families must be in sync or something because just yesterday when my whole family went out to eat for Labor Day my grandma brought an envelope of some old pictures that she had copied for our family tree books!

    1. My old dog, Abby, used to have breathing problems with collars, so I totally understand! We started Ella out in a harness and I still use that when we go for walks, just because I’m afraid she’ll have the same problem.
That is just so interesting. My allergies were always terrible both at school and at home. I’m glad you’re aren’t so much, though!
That’s so weird! And cool! Family history is just so interesting.

  7. I love the survival kit! Best present ever! And the food you made was seriously so good it was addictive!

    1. I’m so glad you liked it all. 🙂

  8. Color coded organizational charts for the win! That sounds right up my alley, and I hope your first day of student teaching went well. I bet you were a natural.
It sounds like a great week, and that flower picture is gorgeous. Do you know what kind it is? I’d love to plant some of those in my yard.
Last but certainly not least, I am so with you on the pumpkin. I’m going to be sick of pumpkin before fall even starts. People please, let’s finish summer first before we go all pumpkin crazy.

    1. Isn’t it pretty? My dad says he doesn’t remember what it is – that he just bought it because it looked nice – but he thinks it might be a kind of cone flower? Sorry that’s not very helpful!
Exactly! Enough with the pumpkin already!
