Birthday(s) WIAW

Good morning!

This post is going to be short and sweet, but full of birthday deliciousness. (It’s Tuesday night, and I really need to be planning for my Mythology class instead of writing this…)

My birthday was a few weekends ago, and last weekend was my dad’s. Needless to say, we’ve had a lot of food around here. It has not been anywhere near the healthiest food, but it has been some of the most delicious, to be sure. πŸ™‚

Lunches

I’ve been horrible about actually eating lunch on the weekends. It’s so much easier to just grab an apple and string cheese and call it good. That said, my actual lunches for school are boring, so I don’t have any photos to post.

Dinners

For my birthday dinner, my mom made enchiladas. They were super good, as always.

For my dad’s birthday, I stuck with tradition and made pasties. While I made our family recipe (which includes beef) for my dad and grandma, I decided to make a vegetarian version for myself. When I have time (which will probably not be until January…ha), I’ll have to post the recipe, because it was definitely a winner!

Desserts

I didn’t need cake for my birthday, as I knew I was going to make it for my dad’s, so on Saturday I baked up a double-decker chocolate cake using this recipe. (I doubled all the ingredients).

And that, in short, was What I Ate on my birthday and my dad’s. I’m linking this post up to Jenn’s weekly party, so head on over to her site and check it out!

WIAW LogoQuestions for the day:

Do you insist on certain dishes/meals when it’s your birthday?

Have you ever had an English/Cornish pasty?

What’s your favorite flavor cake? Can you guess what mine is? πŸ™‚

Well, I’d better get back to work. Have a great day, everyone!

  1. Looks like you had some fantastic and delicious meals during all the birthday celebration! Keurig machines are amazing – have you become obsessed with it yet? Maybe even wanting to steal it from your Dad? Ha Ha!

Favorite cake flavor: Vanilla – or Funfetti

    1. Haha I couldn’t get away with it if I tried! He’s in love with it already! πŸ˜‰

  2. Such a cute little birthday theme! It’s an adorable cake πŸ™‚ And mmm those enchiladas!

  3. so cute! You are the best baker/cooker. everything looks so good

    1. Aw, thanks, Alex!

  4. Wow that cake!! Amazing.
I’m not a fan of pasties! I’m not a huge pastry fan altogether really. Even sweet pastries don’t rock my world.
My favourite flavour cake….too hard. I like Victoria sponges, Bakewell tarts, Dorset apple, red velvet, lemon drizzle….the list goes on and on!

    1. Really?? I could eat one every day and be happy, but I understand the pastry thing. Sometimes they can be a bit over-the-top.
I’d like to try every one of those cakes!

  5. Pasties!!! I’ve never met a blogger who actually knows what they are. I’m from the UP! I just found your blog through WIAW and I’m definitely sticking around πŸ™‚ the pancakes look WONDERFUL too!

    1. Oh cool! I’m from the Lower Peninsula, so it’s always fun to get “imported” pasties from the UP! Glad to “meet” you! πŸ˜‰

  6. Those enchiladas look delicious! As for cake flavors, I’ve loved spice cake since I was little. I also love yellow cake, but spice cake is still my jam. πŸ™‚

    1. Spice cake IS soooo good. Especially this time of year.

  7. That cake is too damn cute!

    1. Thanks! πŸ™‚

  8. Can I have some of your pancakes please?

    Your mum’s enchiladas look delicious.

    1. I’ll send some over right now! πŸ˜‰

  9. NO. I just lost my comment AGAIN. This has happened to me three times today already. Darn Bloglovin.

Anyways… You seriously need to post that pasty recipe soon. You’ve been taunting us forever and a half ago since you first posted it.

At first I thought that coffee cup was supposed to be a heart and I thought “Uh.. Ya. That’s nice Liv…” Lol. But when I actually looked at it and your description it definitely is a coffee mug, and a good one at that. So sweet of you to make the cake for your dad!

I basically love all cake flavors… White sheet cake, funfetti, and strawberry pink cake from the mix… All at the top! πŸ™‚

    1. Oh no! I hate it when that happens.
Yeah, I really do need to post it. I didn’t realize people had been waiting for it! As soon as I get time, it will be up!
Haha that’s what my dad thought it was at first, too. πŸ™‚
It’s hard to go wrong with cake!

  10. Love what you did with the cake, super creative! To celebrate birthdays, we always let the birthday gal/guy choose to go out to a restaurant or have a specific meal at home… As much as I love chocolate (specifically, chocolate lava cake), I prefer vanilla birthday cakes πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks! Yeah, that’s typically what we do too. Usually, it’s fun to go out, but it’s been such bad weather recently, a meal at home sounded best. πŸ™‚ Interesting! I love chocolate all around.

  11. Such a cute idea to decorate the cake matching the coffee theme! Can I hire you for my next birthday cake, too :)? And yes, I absolutely insist on certain dishes for my birthday though it varies from year to year depending on my current favourites at that time.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a pasty but I’m curious to see your recipe.
Oh and that Mythology class you mentioned sounds interesting. Which topics are you working on?

    1. I’d love to! πŸ˜‰
Pasties are sooo good. If you’re ever in England, you’ll have to try one!
It is an interesting class. We’re looking at Greek, Hebrew, and Norse mythology, and have separated it into different units. The unit we’re on right now is about heroes in each culture.

  12. I love that cake! I have had a beef pasty before, holy crap it was amazing!

    1. Aren’t they great??

  13. That cake is adorable! I hear ya on the lunch part. I’ve been bad about dinner, I just grab greek yogurt, some nuts and call it a day!

    1. Thanks! Yes, exactly. If I could live off Greek yogurt, I would. (And sometimes do. πŸ˜‰ )

  14. Happy Belated Birthday to you and your dad! β™₯ All your food shots look absolutely amazing! It was Lil’ L’s birthday on the 26th October, so we had a fun-filled weekend too.. which then spilled into the following week as it was the school half term holidays. I’ve never known a birthday celebration to go on so long! I’m hugely behind with my blogging, but am hoping to post some pics of his birthday very soon!
I hope you’re doing well. Looking forward to catching up with all your blog posts that I’ve missed recently. Always such a delight to read xx
