Tips for Exercising in the Summer {Guest Post}

Hello, hello!

I cannot believe it’s Wednesday already. The week is half over! Usually I’m ok with that, but now it means my vacation is done in just a few days. I’d better keep enjoying it while I can!

Today I have a guest post lined up from Fiona, of Get Fit Fiona. Through her blog, she chronicles her exercises and her eats (much like me!). I often find myself being inspired by one of her delicious meals or great workouts. Anyway, she’s here today to discuss exercising in the hot heat of the summer!

Hi! I’m Fiona and I blog over at Get Fit Fiona. Although I started reading Liv Lives Life relatively recently, I’ve really been enjoying it since I found it. So when Liv asked for guest posters I  knew right away I wanted to write a post to contribute. I thought I’d discuss working out in the summer.

First off, make sure you’re hydrated. Drink water before, during, and after working out. If you start to feel thirsty you’re not drinking enough!

Taking in enough water is especially important when it’s hot out.

Dressing appropriately is another important thing to think about while outside during the summer. I like to wear a little less than I think I’ll need, cause I always warm up once I’ve started moving and start sweating. Sunglasses and a hat are essentials.

In addition to clothing, you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared with sun screen and bug spray. When applying sunscreen ensure you get everywhere that isn’t covered with clothing with sunscreen – that includes the tops of your ears if you have your hair in a pony tail.

Before you use your leftover sunscreen from last year check the expiry date on it to make sure it’s still good.

If at all possibly schedule your outdoor workouts in the morning or evening when it’s not as hot out. Going for a bike ride it a lot tougher when the sun is straight overhead than when it’s off to one side creating shade from fences or trees.

Lastly, if it’s too hot or humid, take your workout inside. Use the treadmill or the stationary bike at the gym. Switch up your schedule and take a rest day on hot days and workout outside on cooler ones.

What are your best hot weather workout tips?

So many good tips here, especially the part about hydration! I know many people around the U.S. (and the world!) are experiencing a heat wave right now, so that tip is especially important right now. Thanks again, Fiona, for sharing this with us!

Have a lovely day, everyone, and stay cool! 😉

  1. I love it! I recently started running (again, ha!) and am careful to do it either in the early morning or the evening, to avoid the heat and humidity. It’s so nice being out later in the day because I get to watch the clouds & pretty colors in the sky as the sun lowers 🙂
    And yes, definitely lots of water!

  2. Great post! 🙂

  3. Haha. You know my family too well Fiona! We always forget to check the expiration date on our sunscreen 🙂

  4. I work out indoors actually and I bring a fan with me! Good thing there are outlets in the gym I work out in ! ha ha ha!
